How it all Started

Hi, my name is Carrie, the heart and soul behind CJWorkx and the story starts back in 2006 when I was on the verge of giving up on life. I became determined to rewrite my narrative and took the terrifying step of beginning my recovery journey. Along the way, I discovered the transformative power of mental wellness. Fuelled by my personal experiences, I wanted to deepen my understanding and enrolled at the SACAP which became a stepping stone for CJWorkx—an endeavor born out of a pivotal moment in 2022 as I faced retrenchment. This unexpected turn became the doorway to an exciting opportunity—a chance to explore my passion for learning and sharing knowledge. As I delved into my own journey of exploration, experimentation, and discovery, I realized the profound impact that a simplified and enjoyable approach to mental wellness could have on others.

Encouraged by those around me, I decided to share my unique insights and methods with the world. CJWorkx is not just a business venture for me; it’s a testament to the belief that mental wellness should be accessible to everyone. It’s an invitation to join me in the ‘right here and right now’ —a space where we can embark on a transformative journey together. Through my passion and gifts, I will continue to work towards making mental wellness not only accessible but also an enriching experience for all who choose to walk this path with me.

I’ve spent my entire life nestled in the vibrant landscapes of Cape Town, South Africa, where the ocean breeze whispers tales of serenity and inspiration. Admittedly, I’m fiercely independent—a trait that often reminds me of the importance of leaning on others for support. Life, after all, is a continuous journey of growth and self-discovery. Passionate about design and creativity, I find solace in crafting visual stories that resonate with the soul. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of life, I cherish quiet evenings at home, surrounded by cherished friends and the comfort of a homemade meal.

Family holds a special place in my heart, especially my dear nephew, who never fails to bring a smile to my face. When we struggle with a mental illness it is important that we look after ourselves and put everything in place that could help us daily. Do the work, spend the time preparing and the extreme highs and lows might become more manageable or at least you might become aware more quickly that you need to reach out to your support team.

I lost the desire to use, I lost the desire to stay depressed, I lost the desire to give but I have gained the desire to live, to be productive, to love and be loved.

Remember that there is still a person behind that personality disorder, a complex person, but still a person. A person who often feels far more deeply but doesn’t know how to show it appropriately, who doesn’t know how to relate to others in an acceptable fashion, who is doing the best they can with what they know.
